How to sign a PDF for free
You can add a handwritten signature to any PDF right in your browser — no printing, scanning, account or upload. Here's how to do it in under a minute, on a computer or your phone.
Just a web browser and your PDF. The file is opened on your device and never sent to a server, so it's safe for contracts and forms.
Sign a PDF in 5 steps
-
Open your PDF
Go to the PDF editor and click Open PDF, or drag your file onto the page. It loads instantly from your device.
-
Choose the Signature tool
Select Sign in the toolbar (or press S). A signature pad opens.
-
Draw your signature
Sign with your mouse, trackpad or finger. Pick black or blue ink, and use Clear to start over until it looks right.
-
Place it on the page
Click Use signature, then tap where it should go. Drag the corner handles to resize it and move it anywhere — including onto a signature line.
-
Download the signed PDF
Click Export to save your signed document. Your original file is untouched; you get a new signed copy.
After placing your signature you can copy it to other pages, so multi-page agreements only need signing once.
Is an electronic signature like this valid?
For most everyday documents — forms, internal approvals, letters — a drawn electronic signature is widely accepted, and laws such as the U.S. ESIGN Act and the EU's eIDAS recognise electronic signatures. For high-stakes agreements that require a qualified or identity-verified signature, use a dedicated e-signature provider. When in doubt, check what the recipient requires. This is general information, not legal advice.
Frequently asked questions
Can I sign a PDF on my phone?
Yes. The signature pad is touch-friendly — draw with your finger, then tap to place it. Open the PDF from your Files app, an email attachment, or a cloud storage app.
Is it really free, with no watermark?
Yes. There's no account, no watermark and no page limit. The site is supported by ads, not by charging for the tool.
Is it safe to sign private documents here?
Your PDF is processed entirely in your browser and never uploaded, so the document itself never leaves your device. See the Privacy Policy for details.
Can I also add typed text or a date?
Yes — use the Text tool to type your name, a date, or fill form fields, then add your signature. See the user guide.
This guide is for general information and describes an electronic (drawn) signature, not a qualified digital signature. It is not legal advice.
