How to use AmigoPDF
A complete walkthrough of every tool. AmigoPDF runs entirely in your browser — your files are never uploaded — so everything below works the same whether you’re online or offline once the page has loaded.
1. Getting started
There is nothing to install and no account to create. From the home page, pick the tool you need:
- Edit & sign — the full editor for annotating a single PDF.
- Merge — combine several PDFs into one.
- Split & extract — pull pages out into new files.
2. Opening a PDF
Choose your file
Click Open PDF, or drag a PDF straight onto the page. It loads instantly from your device.
Navigate
Scroll through pages in the main area. Use the + / − zoom buttons or the percentage button (fit-to-width) in the top bar. The page counter shows where you are.
3. Adding text
Great for filling in forms, adding notes, or labelling.
Pick the Text tool
Select Text from the toolbar (or press T).
Click where you want it
Click a spot on the page and start typing. Press Esc or click away when you’re done.
Style it
With the text selected, use the properties panel to set font (Helvetica, Times, Courier), size, colour, bold/italic, and alignment.
Edit later
Double-click any text box to change its wording.
4. Highlighting
Choose the Highlight tool (H) and drag across the area you want to mark. Set the colour and opacity in the properties panel. Highlights use a “multiply” blend so the text underneath stays readable.
5. Shapes, lines & arrows
Use Box (R), Circle (O), Line (L) or Arrow (A) to draw. Drag on the page to create the shape, then set its colour and line width. Arrows are handy for pointing at a detail; a thin line makes a quick underline.
6. Signing a PDF
Open the signature pad
Click Sign (S). A panel opens where you can draw.
Draw your signature
Sign with your mouse, trackpad or finger. Choose black or blue ink, and use Clear to start over.
Place it
Click Use signature, then tap the page where it should go. Drag the corner handles to size it, and reposition it any time.
The signature is captured as a transparent image, so it sits cleanly over lines and boxes on a form.
7. Inserting images
Click Image (I), choose a PNG or JPG, then tap the page to drop it in. Useful for a company logo, a stamp, or a photo of a scanned signature. Resize with the corner handles (aspect ratio is preserved).
8. Moving, resizing & deleting
Switch to the Select tool (V) to manage anything you’ve added:
- Move — drag it.
- Resize — drag a corner handle.
- Duplicate — use the copy button on the floating toolbar above the selection.
- Delete — the trash button, or press Delete / Backspace.
- Undo — the undo button, or Ctrl/⌘+Z.
9. Reordering & deleting pages
In the editor, click Pages to open the page organiser:
- Reorder — drag a thumbnail, or use the ◀ ▶ buttons.
- Delete — the ✕ on a thumbnail, or tick several and choose Delete selected.
- Extract — tick pages and choose Extract selected to download just those pages.
- Add PDF — merge another file’s pages onto the end.
10. Merging PDFs
Open the Merge tool. Add two or more PDFs (drag them in or click to browse), drag the rows into the order you want, give the result a name, and click Merge & download. Pages are copied across losslessly.
11. Splitting & extracting
Open the Split tool and load a PDF. Then either:
- Pick pages visually — tap the thumbnails you want; a tick appears.
- Type a range — e.g.
1-3, 5, 8-10. The All / None / Odd / Even buttons help.
Click Extract selected to get one PDF of those pages, or Split all pages to save every page as its own file.
12. Exporting & saving
In the editor, click Export to build your finished PDF and download it. You can set the file name in the top bar first.
AmigoPDF doesn’t overwrite your original — it produces a new PDF you download, leaving the source file untouched. Your browser saves it to its Downloads location (or asks you where, if you’ve set it to).
13. Password-protected PDFs
If a PDF is encrypted, you’ll be asked for its password, which is used only on your device to unlock the file. Once unlocked you can edit normally. Note that encrypted pages are re-rendered as images when exported, so selectable text in those pages becomes flat. The tool does not remove DRM from protected documents and shouldn’t be used to try.

15. Using it on a phone
The tools are touch-friendly. The toolbar moves to the bottom for thumb reach, and options appear in a panel at the bottom of the screen. Tap to place text, drag to draw, and sign with your finger. To open a PDF on a phone, use your Files app, an email attachment, or a cloud-storage app’s “open in browser / share” option.
16. Troubleshooting
“This PDF is corrupted or unsupported”
The file may be damaged or not a real PDF. Try re-downloading it, or open it in another viewer and re-save/print-to-PDF first.
A page won’t render
Very large or complex pages can be slow, especially on older phones. Give it a moment, or lower the zoom.
My exported text looks slightly different
Added text uses standard PDF fonts (Helvetica, Times, Courier). It won’t match an unusual font in the original document, but it will be crisp and consistent.
Nothing downloads on export
Check that your browser isn’t blocking downloads for the site, and that you have free storage.
