How to fill out a PDF form for free

Got a form that isn’t fillable? You can type over any PDF — applications, contracts, school or medical forms — right in your browser, then download the completed copy. No printing, no app, no upload.

What you need

Just a web browser and the form. The PDF opens on your device and never leaves it, so it’s safe for personal information.

Fill out a PDF form in 5 steps

  1. Open the form in the editor

Go to the PDF editor and click Open PDF, or drag the form onto the page.

  2. Pick the Text tool

Select Text in the toolbar (or press T).

  3. Click a blank and type

Click exactly where an answer belongs and type it. Adjust the font size in the panel so it fits the line neatly.

  4. Check boxes and sign

For checkboxes, place a text “X” over the box. Then use the Sign tool to draw your signature and place it on the signature line.

  5. Download the completed form

Click Export — you get a new, filled-in copy; the blank original stays untouched.

Tip: it works on scanned forms too

Even if the form is just a scan or photo, you’re typing on a layer above the page — so any PDF becomes fillable.

Frequently asked questions

Can I fill out a form that isn’t fillable?

Yes — that’s the point. You type over any PDF, whether or not it has real form fields, including scanned paper forms.

Can I add a signature too?

Yes. Use the Sign tool to draw your signature and place it anywhere. See how to sign a PDF.

Is my personal information safe?

The form is processed entirely in your browser and never uploaded, so your answers stay on your device. See the Privacy Policy.

Does it work on my phone?

Yes — tap to place text, type with your keyboard, and sign with your finger.
